The Ergobaby Alta combines a removable panel with a firm hip seat. Ergobaby gives the complete carrier a range of 5.5–20.4 kg and 4–48 months, with front inward, front outward and back carrying. The separate seat has its own minimum: 7.7 kg, plus secure head and neck control. When the panel is removed, the manual requires one arm to support the child at all times, so this mode is not hands-free. The manual also warns that a baby under four months can suffocate if their face is pressed against the wearer. Check the fit and keep the face and airway clear. Its rigid base makes the package bulkier than a standard buckle carrier.
