Smoby First Bike Balance Bike

Pros / Cons

Pros

  • At 2.5 kg, it is easy for an adult to carry when a young rider has had enough.
  • Puncture-proof wheels need no pumping, keeping short practice sessions simple.

Cons

  • There is no hand brake; the manual limits use to level ground, away from roads and slopes.
  • The saddle adjusts by only 5 cm, so the advertised 2–5-year age band does not guarantee several years of fit.

Smoby First Bike suits a child learning to push, coast and stop on a level path. Its useful advantage is the combination of a low 32.5-37.5 cm saddle and a 2.5 kg bike that an adult can carry home. Although Smoby lists ages two to five, the saddle only rises by 5 cm: choose by secure ground contact, not the promise of growing through the whole age range. Both feet should rest flat with knees slightly bent.

The puncture-proof wheels need no pumping, and steering is limited to 30 degrees. There is no hand brake. Smoby’s instructions require level ground away from traffic, slopes, steps and water, with adult supervision and closed shoes. An adult assembles the handlebar and saddle; the seat post must remain inserted by at least 55 mm. The manual’s 50 kg single-rider limit is a load ceiling, not evidence that a larger child will fit this small frame.
