It makes sense when your bike already has a real MIK-HD carrier and you want a cleaner click-on setup for school runs or short everyday rides. The useful distinction is compatibility: MIK-HD is the load-rated carrier system this version is built around, so a normal MIK rack or a narrow city-bike carrier is not enough to assume fit.
