Pros / Cons
Pros
- Two-in-one design switches between full carrier mode and standalone hip seat.
- Ergobaby's own sizing and support ecosystem applies, including a curved anti-slip seat.
Cons
- More to adjust and carry than a simple hip seat alone.
- Hip-seat mode is a quick-lift carry, not a hands-free long-walk solution.

The Alta is a full soft-structured carrier with an integrated hip seat that can also be removed for hip-seat-only carrying. Ergobaby Australia gives a 5.4-20 kg range, from about four to 48 months, and describes three carrier positions plus three hip-seat positions. It is not a newborn carrier and has no infant insert. Follow the manual’s child-size limits for each position rather than using the overall range for every carry. When the panel is removed and you use the hip seat alone, the manual requires one arm to support the child at all times, so that mode is not hands-free. Check waistband fit and panel setup before use; the carrier mode is the better choice when you need both hands free.
